Technical Information

Double the resolution (1600x1200)

All photos taken on a brand spanking new Canon Powershot G2. Most Pictures taken in the 'P' setting (cept when I forgot or bumped it to another setting). Some are in Landscape, some in Macro mode, and a few in Sepia & B&W. Some were taken in a mode I don’t know about :->.

The cards used were a 128 & 32 meg cards with CD’s burned in both Cambodia & Vietnam. This is the way of the future. I just found a computer shop and got them to burn of the images using a USB SmartCard reader (very light & compact!)

I cannot recommend this camera more highly ---- amazingly simple and flexible --- and with time I think I can get better results. However, for a 2 day purchase before use I cannot be happier with most of the results.

Note: The new Canon Powershot is the G5 and I would still recommend it and whats better is that it is almost 1/2 the price i paid for the G2 but it is a better camera for sure.

UPDATE:

On last years trip to Vietnam I added another memory card and bought this

The makers website is HERE <<<>>> Check out the NEW XS Drive Pro <<<>>> awesome & MP3 player as well !!!

This is a groovier version from a different maker

or look @ the Image Storage device part here

or here

They will set u back @ least $400Au but you can hire it to your
friends in future ;-P. It means you can take all your pics at the
highest resolution and just upload to the reader, while you can take
as many shots as you like. They are brilliant.

Expect a proliferation of such devices and a BIG price reduction as more makers hit the market!!!

HINT: Take 2 Backups of each Memory Card before erasure and if you are REALLY paranoid - also burn to CD. Imagine 40Gig storage of pics @ 1 Meg each !!!!

NEWS - Aug 2005

Who can keep up with progress ? Now it is the Canon G6 (still the top camera in its class), Digi-bins are a necessity, and cameras are appearing with integrated Hard Disks. There is no substitute for storage !

Last trip i took a Nikon 8 megapix camera. Nice to use and good pix. Batteries are still the biggest issue with imagery - if half the money that was spent on improving image quality was spent on storage and battery reliability - the world would be much better pictorially.

Digi-bins and large (non-proprietary memory sticks) are essential. Backup the shots to DVD and post em home.
